Hi and welcome to my page :)

My name is Michael Schweisthal... Send me an email!

Michael Schweisthal

I realize this page looks a little old school and not up to date by modern web standards, but that is kind of what I'm hoping for... reminiscent in style to old Web 1.0 web pages from pre-2005. I romanticize old tech and open source software, even though in an objective sense, there is nothing really romantic about those things.

And, this place is much more of a personal landing page than a blog of any kind.

Other places where you can find me on the web:

GitHub: here

I mainly use this to host my dotfiles and various configuration files, for things like Emacs, and some random code and utilities as well. I spend a lot of time on GitHub actually, as it's a great place to read and study the source code for many (most) open source software projects, written in whatever programming languages I find interesting at the time.

Twitter personal: here

This is a my personal twitter where I browse and collect interesting things related to music, art, and literature. Although I live and work with technology, art creation and consumption are both a major part of my daily life.

LinkedIn: here

My LinkedIn account, for my "professional" life. I update this very infrequently.

Facebook: here

Instagram: here

Tumblr: here

Tumblr has an amazing amount of artistic content on its site. Much like my personal Twitter, I keep this Tumblr account to collect anything artsy that has significant depth or meaning. I'm particularly drawn to melancholic works of art... as well as any poetry or references to literature that captures my interest.

Chess.com: here

I enjoy chess and play online, mostly with family at this point. I do enjoy following chess news and the major tournaments. I've been told that I play an "active positional" style, though I don't intend to play that way (and I'm not that great at it). I would do better if I spent more time on tactics problems and endgame studies.

My home on LiChess: here

I play pick-up chess games here sometimes. There was a time when I played around 100 games a week here, and sometimes more, but that number seems to have dwindled down to almost nothing, recently. LiChess is an awesome, free, open source chess server (written in Scala) where many top grandmasters play. And the user interface is the best of any online chess platform, in my opinion.
